Mom's Obituary (Jeff's Original)

Virgie “Gertrude” Stalker

Gertrude Stalker, 93 of Pikeville KY, formerly of Elkhorn City, died Sunday morning July 1, at  Cedar Creek Assisted Living.

She was born on Road Creek, March 20, 1925, the daughter of the late John Looney and Rachel Justice Looney.

She was a wife, and the mother to five children she loved dearly.

She belonged to the Faith First Baptist Church located at the mouth of Jimmie’s Creek, where she faithfully attended with her Children.

She was responsible for helping start, what we called Marrowbone Baptist church.   I can still remember the old small brown house we all worshiped in.  She was a Sunday school teacher there for many years and sang in the choir.

If she knew someone was sick, she would go visit.  She was always taking food to her family and friends. She loved to cook and feed her family.  Sundays were chicken and dumplings or fried chicken after church.  She was a wonderful cook.

On Aug 2, 2014, she was able to witness one of her greatest desires. Her husband for 65 years gave his life to Jesus.    She had prayed long and hard for that day.  So for those of you who have been praying for someone a long time, let her life be a witness to you, don’t give up.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Oot Stalker, her brothers, Junice Looney and Joe Looney

She is survived by her brother Willie Looney (Carolyn) of Elkhorn City, her children, and their spouses:  One son, Clyde Stalker (Jennie)  of Pikeville, KY,  and four daughters,  Luci Potter of Mt Sterling, KY, Sherry Coffey of Paris, KY,  Jeffery Ratliff (Randy) of Interlachen, FL and Michelle Schell (Jim) of London, KY, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.  She loved and prayed for each of them.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.   Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc of Elkhorn City.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Faith First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 83, Regina KY 41559

I can't have an online Google Photo album for Dad and not have one for Mom. She would disown me.

Here are links to Mom's Photo Album and Dad's Photo Album.
