While the whole family was outside eating, a rooster came out of his hen house and ran as hard as he could to Roo. He said with tears in his eyes, "Roo, my hen is trying to lay an egg. Well, it seems like I can't be of much help!"
Roo, Jeffery Hen and the rooster ran as fast as they could to the hen house. The hen was lying in her nest very tired. Jeffery Hen tried to comfort the hen the best she could while Roo and the rooster tried to get the egg to come out of her. When the egg finally came out the hen acted like she was dead. The rooster started to crow, "My hen is dead!"
All of the hens and roosters that heard this ran to the hen house with worriment. One of the hens was a elder. She went immediately to the hen and ordered the other hens to get some water fast. The elder hen tired her best to get air in and out of her lungs. The hens went to get some water. They used some of the water to cool her. The hen started again to squeeze her chest to make air flow in and out of her lungs. Minutes pass and the hen finally started to breathe. All in the hen house started to yell in excitement, "She's alive!"
The hen was in so much pain she didn't know what had hit her. The elder hen told her she just laid an egg. All the roosters left the hen house as soon as they knew everything was all right. The hens wanted to see the egg she laid.
When they carefully got the hen to relax for a while she finally was able to get up and show them her egg. All of the hens flocked over to the nest. They noticed that the egg was huge. The elder hen said, "Oh my, this is a twin egg."
"A twin egg?" asked the hens.
"Yes," said the elder hen, she is going to have twins."
Jeffery Hen said, "I thought you had to lay two eggs in order to have twins."
The elder hen said, "Yes, but this egg is going to have either two boys or two girls, it can't be one of each. When they are born and grow up you can't even tell them apart they will look so much alike."
The hens were very interested in this. The elder hen told the mother that she will need help with caring for the egg because it is going to be a lot of work turning such a big egg. Especially when she was in all of that pain.
Jeffery Hen said in a very disappointed voice, "I think I am going to be laying an egg soon."
The other hens said, "You are going to be laying an egg soon, Jeffery Hen?"
The elder hen said, "Well, Jeffery Hen, we will excuse you. You can go on home now and lay down. There are plenty enough hens here to help with her egg."
Jeffery Hen went home, she told Roo that the hen was going to have twins!
