Rumor Control

PRESS RELEASE  - PUTNAM COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT RUMORED

Rumors have been spreading throughout Putnam County this week concerning the possible relocation of a new business into the area.  Until all the details have been finalized and formal contracts prepared, nothing can be taken as a certainty, but the following details what we believe to be "in the works."

RECYCLING BUSINESS RELOCATING HERE
It has been repeated in various locations across the county that a production facility for recycled products was being examined in Kentucky and, if relocation looked feasible, the facility would be loaded up and transported to the Intelachen, FL area.  Exactly what the recycled product would be was not revealed but we understand the manufacturer to be operating in Kentucky as "Michelle Schell Creations".  We could not locate them in the Official Directory of US Corporations but we believe it to be a subdivision of Schell Products, a multinational conglomerate headquartered in London.

DEMAND FOR LOCAL PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
What seem to be pre-orders for a variety of products have already been received by several local suppliers:

  • A spike in the demand for "Shiners" has resulted in a doubling of the price in the past week.
  • Most local grocery stores report they are running short of pinto beans and corn meal due to a recent surge in demand.
  • No 'Honey Buns" can be found within a 15 mile radius of Orange Springs, FL.

The owner of "Dumper Pumper Septic Tank Service" reports he received anonymous inquires regarding:

  • How many time a week could he pump a single septic system and
  • What was the capacity in tons of the local sewer system.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Exactly how many jobs this new business will mean for the local economy is not yet known.  One source familiar with the project was overhear to say, "It's going to be a lot of work for somebody."

The much needed and hoped for boost to the local economy seems to have moved a bit closer as all along CR 315 on Tuesday you could hear the refrain, "They're coming, they're coming, they're coming."  As always YOUR Chamber of Commerce will continue to monitor developments and keep you, the business leaders of Putnam County, informed and in business.
